Updated 2025: This post has been updated to reflect the current price of the HRT Prepayment Certificate and remove outdated links.

Earlier this week it was confirmed by the Department of Health & Social Care that the new HRT prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) will be rolled out from 1st April 2023.

The PPC will mean you can access a years worth of HRT prescribed products for a single cost. The £19.80 certificate covers eligible HRT products for 12 months, whether someone uses one or several.

The PPC will be available to women in England and all types of HRT products – gel, patches, local oestrogen, progesterone products are included. Testosterone is unfortunately not covered as it is not currently licenced for use by women in the UK.

You can find the full list of included HRT products by clicking here

To access the PPC you need to apply through the NHS Business Services Authority or in person at a pharmacy registered to sell PPCs.

Making HRT more affordable will have a hugely beneficial impact on the lives of so many women. This prepayment certificate is a major step forward in prioritising the health and wellbeing of women.

If you already use a PPC for multiple medications, you can continue to use this as it will be cheaper for you.
