Halle Berry discusses her experience of perimenopaue

You may have seen Halle Berry discussing her experience of perimenopause lately. But more specifically, vaginal dryness and how this perimenopause symptom was misdiagnosed by her doctor as “the worst case of herpes he’d ever seen”

Perimenopause & vaginal dryness

I find it extraordinary that some health professionals can still have such little knowledge about this area of women’s health. This particular symptom is easy to resolve by taking systemic Hormone Replacement Therapy, or if you can’t or don’t want to take this form of HRT you can opt to simply use vaginal oestrogen. This can almost always be used safely, even in women with a history of breast cancer.

Halle Berry visited her GP as she was experiencing pain after sex, but symptoms can also present as recurrent UTI’s, bladder issues, dryness and itching.

Getting help for your perimenopause symptoms

Vaginal dryness is a common symptom of perimenopause/menopause, so please don’t be embarrassed to visit your GP or nurse to get this resolved. If you have been to your health practitioner but haven’t got the support you would like, I recommend asking the surgery if they have a menopause lead and ask to be seen by them.

Done that but still not getting anywhere? Or feel like you need some support to prepare for your appointment? You can book in for a short session with me where I can answer your HRT questions, help you prepare for your appointment and even refer you to a local Menopause GP who can prescribe for you privately if you prefer.

The main thing is, don’t suffer in silence.
