How are you feeling as we move into February? If you started January full of motivation, determined to finally tackle your menopause symptoms with a Menopause Reset but now feel like nothing has changed, you’re not alone.
I see this all the time with my clients. They’ve tried everything—cutting out coffee, taking supplements, starting new diets, exercising every day—only to feel just as exhausted, anxious and overwhelmed as before. But a Menopause Reset can help you break that cycle.
But here’s the good news: it doesn’t have to be this way. In this article, I’ll break down why those changes haven’t stuck and more importantly, what actually works.
Why Your January Reset Didn’t Work
- You Weren’t Ready January is cold, dark, and exhausting after the festive season. It’s a tough time to make major lifestyle changes. Most women I work with don’t feel ready until February or even March when that natural shift into spring makes change feel easier.
- You Tried to Do Everything at Once Going all-in—cutting out caffeine, doing Dry January, following a new diet, taking five supplements, exercising daily—leads to burnout. The last thing you need right now. Real change happens when you take small, focused steps that you can actually maintain.
- You’re Listening to Too Many Opinions One day it’s fasting, the next it’s a miracle supplement, then an influencer tells you to cut out dairy. It’s overwhelming! Instead of trying everything, focus on one clear, evidence-based approach that makes sense for you.
- You Expect Instant Results When symptoms don’t disappear overnight, it’s tempting to assume what you’re doing isn’t working. But real, lasting change comes from consistency. If something helps—even slightly—stick with it and build on it.
- You Don’t Have the Right Support Many women feel like they should be able to handle menopause alone. But having the right guidance—whether from a GP, menopause specialist or supportive community—makes all the difference.
A Real-Life Reset: Lucy’s Story
Lucy (not her real name) came to me exhausted, anxious and struggling to sleep. She’d tried HRT, supplements, diet changes and everything she could think of but nothing was helping. This is simplified for this article but gives you an overview.
Instead of adding more to her plate, we stripped things back. We focused on:
- Phone habits – No screens before bed, using an alarm clock instead of her phone, habits throughout the day.
- Eating patterns – Moving dinner earlier, prepping meals, improving the balance of meals and cutting down caffeine and midweek wine.
- Breathing techniques – Simple daily breathwork to reduce stress and improve sleep. Functional breathing to improve the way she breathes and reduce night time waking.
- A bedtime routine – Dimming lights, reading and winding down properly.
Within four weeks, Lucy was sleeping through the night more often, had more energy and felt less anxious. The biggest shift? She felt like herself again.
Your Menopause Reset: Where to Start
If you’re feeling stuck, here’s where to begin:
- Check Your Breathing Most women I see have developed poor breathing habits that keep them in fight-or-flight mode. Combined with declining oestrogen this has noticeable impact on stress levels. Try this: place one hand on your chest, one on your belly. Breathe normally—what moves first? If it’s your chest, practice belly breathing to calm your nervous system.
- Tweak Your Eating Routine
- Keep a 10-12 hour eating window.
- Have your last meal 3 hours before bed.
- Prioritise protein and healthy fats.
- Avoid restrictive diets that demonise whole foods.
- Create a Simple Reset Routine
- Get outside for 10 minutes of natural light first thing in the morning.
- Swap your mid-morning coffee for a breathwork break.
- Set up a relaxing bedtime routine (dim the lights, avoid screens and wind down properly).
- Review Your HRT (If You’re Taking It) If you’ve been on HRT for a while and still feel awful, it may need adjusting. Keep a symptom diary and don’t be afraid to ask your GP for a review—or a second opinion.
Making It Work for You
This doesn’t have to be perfect. Pick one thing that excites you—whether it’s breathwork, meal prep or an evening wind-down—and make it your non-negotiable. Tag it onto something you already do to build a habit that sticks.
How to make change that lasts.
